Over the course of last week, I was up to my neck in work – I had just submitted work for studio the week before and unfortunately still had another assignment due for the 10th of March. That is until the whole year received a heavy sigh-inducing email pointing out an error in our upcoming submission date. The work that was supposedly due on the 10th is now due on the 23rd.
HOO – freakin’ – RAY
Equipped with this new found freedom, I set out to accept any and all invitations to eat out, go out, whatever it is that takes place under the sun – that anyone had to offer me. I’ll have to admit that this scenario played out better in my head than it did in reality. Truth to the matter is; I have very little friends (and even fewer of them that don’t already have their own agendas planned for the weekend) and the weeks I spent confined in my own little bedroom, devoid of any human interaction have rendered me ‘invisible’ and ‘indefinitely unavailable’ to all those who know me.
Luckily enough; a flatmate notified me of a certain Burgers & Lobsters that was due to make an appearance at a food event here in Manchester on Friday night to sell their famous lobster rolls.
… sample some lobster rolls we did, obviously.
We had our rolls outside, which would have sounded like a great idea if you didn’t factor in the infamous Mancunian winds into the calculation. Despite feeling shivers up into my bones – I enjoyed the overpriced treat nonetheless. We (Kist, Mira, Helmie and I) then headed to TGI Fridays, after various failed attempts at finding a place that serves any dessert that didn’t require us to break our banks. Spent a good hour or so catching up with one another (and discussing toilets – don’t ask) before saying goodbye to Helmie and returning home with the two girls.
Note: It was my first time at TGI Fridays. Safe to say I wasn’t missing out from never having the experience; food was very so so. Not gonna lie; I’ll probably never go again.
Later that night, I convinced Mira to help me bake my favourite dessert E V E R – the Japanese cheesecake. We were up until almost 3 am in the morning, and boyyy was it worth it. Our cake turned out G R E A T and I satisfied my cravings, so all was good in the world at that point. I don’t have pictures of us baking, but if you’re curious how the cake turned out, click here to see it on my Instagram.
The following day (Saturday) I had offered to help a friend out with selling her Nasi Lemak, well-known in Manchester as Nasi Lemak Rusholme at the food fair that was scheduled to take place alongside the Manchester Malaysian Games 2015.
We fortunately managed to sell everything that day – despite the fact that there wasn’t nearly as many people coming into the food fair compared to similar food-related events held in the past. I strongly felt that the committee responsible for organizing the event didn’t do enough of a good job in advertising thus resulting in its failure.
I had a good time, even though I did feel a bit remorseful from having to spend almost the entire day indoors when it was a perfectly beautiful day.
But spring is closing in on this side of the world – so I’m expecting many days like this one to come.
Lets just hope I won’t be too busy with work when the time comes.
Who am I kidding?
I’ll be waving at the sun from my bedroom window, tears dropping onto my keyboard as I type in CAD shortcuts.
