I am certain there are a lot of those like me out there, those who – upon receiving a package – would tear the packaging into shreds, smell its contents and then proceed to trying everything on. Today was one of those days where I did all of the above, but the only difference being that this time my package didn’t arrive from the likes of ASOS, Monki, Weekday or COS, but instead it came from CHAPEAU, a brand that specializes in clothing made for road cyclists.
If you must know, my boyfriend is an avid road cyclist – he L O V E S it, and I am almost certain that he would choose bicycles over me without batting an eye… But thats not the point. The point is he plans on having me ride alongside himself in Malaysia once I’ve completed my studies and sadly – he is quite possibly a hundred times more determined than I am that I would be able to cycle up the likes of Janda Baik.
So he’s instructed that I start purchasing the items needed for when that time comes, and even though I fear for my very life at the thought of cycling up anything with a higher inclination than that one ‘hill’ along Oxford Road – I almost never say no to new clothes, regardless of it being something I will only ever wear on top a bicycle.
Thus, Chapeau.
This is not a brand I was familiar with, but who am I to give a rats a** about labels when its about 3x cheaper compared to the likes of Rapha, ASSOS, etc.
Next on the hit list are; a saddle, pedals, wheelsets, a pair of shoes, a helmet – good God, this is an expensive hobby. When there comes a day where I will want to give up on this (and there will be a day, or two, or a hundred) somebody please very kindly knock my head onto the nearest wall and remind me of how much money I’ve put into it.
